Innoson Nigeria Limited, Nigeria’s indigenous vehicle production company, says it is making move to take over Guaranty Trust Bank over an alleged N8.7-billion indebtedness to the company.
Innoson, in a statement said its action is hinged on a Supreme Court ruling that dismissed GTB’s appeal marked SC. 694/2014 – against the judgment of Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division.
It said it instituted the move through a “Writ of FiFa taken over Guaranty Trust Bank PLC for and on half of Innoson Nigeria Ltd” as a result of the Bank’s indebtedness to Innoson Nigeria Ltd.
In a telephone interview with Roots Tv Nigeria, the Head of Corporate Communications of Innoson Group, Cornel Osigwe confirmed the move saying the GTBank branches in Onistha, Nnewi, Enugu and Aba were sealed today.
He added that the court and the security agencies would also proceed to the bank’s headquarters in Lagos to put it under lock if the debt was not cleared by Monday.
There has not been any official reaction from the GTbank at time of publication.
