The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has written to the National Judicial Council Panel hearing the petitions against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.
According to the EFCC, information showed that the suspended CJN was “involved in financial impropriety just as it asked the panel to declare that justice Onnoghen had breached various laws”.
EFFC said it had evidence that Onnoghen had funds “which are fairly not attributable to his known, provable and legitimate sources of income”.
The indictment suggests that the suspended Chief Justice has up to $1,7m in his domiciliary account which he cannot account for, that he was given cash gifts from lawyers appearing before him.
This amounted to a breach of the Constitution the EFFC argued.
