Justice Tanko Muhammad has had his tenure extended. According to reports President Muhammadu Buhari consulted with the Nigerian Judicial Council last week and it agreed to extend Muhammad’s tenure for three months.
This week suspended Justice Walter Onnoghen was found guilty at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He has appealed this verdict but while the legal process continues Muhammad will continue at the helm.
According to reports it was decided to extend Muhammad’s tenure as it could take time to appoint a new chief justice and the decision was made to avert a vacuum.
Muhammad was sworn in on January 25 following the President’s suspension of Onnoghen.
