The PDP in Plateau State has suspended its chairperson, Damishi Sango for allegedly misappropriating campaign funds and funds for internally displaced people.
Also suspended by the PDP is the Deputy Party Chairman, Amos Gombi.
The party then appointed its vice chair for Plateau North, Chris Hassan as acting chairperson.
Briefing journalists, the Publicity Secretary for the party, John Akans, said, “a vote of no confidence” had been passed on the state chairman and his deputy. The decision to suspend the pair was a resolution of the party.
“The resources sent to the State for the Presidential elections were not accounted for by the Chairman, aided by the Deputy Chairman,” Akans said.
The pair allegedly concealed the amount of money sent by the Presidential Campaign Committee and created a fraudulent template which they used as ‘a sharing formula’. This formula was kept a secret from the party.
The money raised to help people who were internally displaced were also unaccounted for, the party said.
The money was meant to relieve the pain of those displaced but remains unaccounted for.
“It is worthy to note that the Deputy Chairman is the Chairman Committee on IDPs for the party,” Akans said.
