A Pyakasa Customary Court in Lugbe, Abuja dissolved a seven-year-old marriage between Nwanne Joy and James Valentine over desertion, assault and unwillingness to raise a family.
The president of the court, Usman Ibrahim, delivered the judgment saying that the court had to dissolve the union because of Valentine’s unwillingness to defend his marriage on the grounds of assaults and childlessness.
The court issued a divorced certificate to Joy and said she should return her bride price of N10,000 according to Igbo customs.
Valentine did not appear in court to defend his marriage even after several hearing notices were served on him.
