A medical officer, Jaiye Aderinoye, has warned against self-medication in treating malaria before diagnosis.
Aderinoye said that people should avoid over the counter drugs in treating malaria without proper diagnosis.
She added people should be aware of the dangers of taking the wrong dosage.
Once any symptoms are observed a proper medical diagnosis should be carried out to determine the ailment.
Aderinoye advised that malaria should be prevented by sleeping under treated mosquito nets and staying away from stagnant water where the insect breeds.
