Telecommunications operators in Nigeria have warned of the adverse effect the planned demolition of about 7000 masts will have on the nations economy.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had issued a 30-day ultimatum to telecoms operators who have not obtained Aviation Height Clearance (AHC) to do so or risk having their masts pulled down.
However, the telecoms operators said if NCAA goes ahead with the threat, the repercussion will be felt nationwide.
The association said despite the multiple taxes already imposed on the telecoms industry, regulators are weighing other methods of taxing the network operators more.
The telecoms operators said if NCAA went ahead with the planned demolition, they will not rebuild new ones and the implications for other sectors of the economy will be adversely affected.
