Local farmers may not be ready for hydroponic farming, despite its benefits, said Ismail Olawale, a fellow of the Nigerian Agriculture and Extension Liaison Service.
Olawale said the hydroponic farming system is sensitive and required special attention because of its cumbersome nature making it difficult for local farmers to adopt.
He said with the water solvent and nutrient solution nature of hydroponic farming it’s mostly practised in areas where there is a land problem, soil infertility or rocky areas.
However, Nigerian farmers are not ready to practice this farming method at a commercial level because of the processes involved in the system.
