Africa’s leading integrated digital payments system Interswitch has entered into a card technology deal worth £56-million.
The deal involving two UK companies is expected to device a cashless transport method in Africa.
According to the UK Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, the deal will see to the provision of a transport payment technology, similar to the Oyster Card of transport in London, “and it is a sign of how UK technology can drive growth of some of Nigeria’s most innovative companies”.
On his part, the Divisional Chief Executive Officer of Interswitch, Akeem Lawal said that the card technology system would be built on existing technologies.
According to him, the project is a long term ‘Strategic End’, project which will be 100 percent solar energy driven.
