Adedotun Ajiboye, a clinical psychologist has warned that addiction to social media can cause both mental and physical health challenges.
Ajiboye, a psychologist in Ekiti University Teaching Hospital said addiction to social media is real and could be difficult to overcome due to the availability of the internet.
He added that social anxiety is one of the mental health consequences of social media addiction.
The psychologist said that consequences of social media addiction include emotional suppression, cyber bullying, peer pressure, eye problems, fatigue and among others.
However, though the technological advancement has brought negative attributes to human health, Ajiboye on the other hand, added that the browsing of the internet for information gives the opportunity to research and add to knowledge.
