Every 30th of May is the date set aside to mark the remembrance of the declaration of Biafra republic in 1967.
A procession/gathering are usually witnessed in the South Eastern Nigerian to honour the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Civil War in the region.
However, the celebration was prominent on Twitter and other social media platforms with various hashtags like #BiafraRembranceDay #BiafraHeroesDay2019 and others
Pictures and videos of the Biafran Soldiers were displayed with moving messages to honour their departures.
The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu had in a broadcast instructed his followers on what to do as he passed a sit at home order in all the States in the South East.
The secessionist leader instructed pro-Biafra activists during the broadcast on what to do ahead of the sit-at-home today.
The IPOB leader said: “Today is a day for serious thinking and reasoning on the part of our people and the day the entire Biafraland is locked down, markets are not opened, no schools, no offices are opened, no banks, nothing.
“Everywhere is at a complete standstill and total, shut down,”
Kanu, few hours after the broadcast also tweeted urging every Igbos to keep the momentum of the remembrance day alive.

The Biafra Republic officially existed from 30 May 1967 to January 1970.
During this period, two million Biafran civilians died from starvation caused by the total blockade of the region by the Nigerian and British governments.
