Security has been beefed up at the Abuja National Mosque over a planned protest by Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shiites.
A member of the group confirmed this development in a telephone interview with RootsTv.
“Yes, the information you got is true, they are on our trail, we are at the National Mosque already and we can see trucks load of armed security personnel stationed at different locations around the National Mosque,” he said.
“We are aware of their plan to arrest us but nothing will stop us from having our procession today immediately after the Jummat prayers.”
Security operatives were seen within and outside the city and its metropolis leading to a traffic gridlock along Mararaba-Nyanya road.
The traffic gridlock also extended from AYA to Masaka and Orange Market forcing many people to trek a long distance while others have to maneuver their way through commercial motorcycles.
Members of IMN are protesting the continued detention of their Leader, Ibrahim Zakzaky with some of the protests leading into violence.
