The Federal Government announced on Wednesday that it has pulled out of the World Economic Forum on Africa holding in Cape Town, South Africa from September 4 to 6, due to the xenophobic attacks in the country.Nigeria has also recalled its High Commissioner to South Africa, Ambassador Kabiru Bala.
Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Felix Tshisekedi of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Peter Mutharika of Malawi had all withdrawn from the event earlier this week.
Also, as a result of a brainstorming session with President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, and Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama, the Nigerian Government has demanded full compensation for the loss of life and property of Nigerians affected by the xenophobic attack.
Onyeama had on Tuesday during a joint news briefing with the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Moroe, insisted: “In the first place, we must address the issue of compensation.There has to be accountability and there has to be responsibility for compensating all those Nigerians that have suffered loss and we are going to absolutely push forward.”
