President Muhammadu Buhari has dissolved the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP) established by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in August 2017.
Osinbajo, who was then Acting President when President Muhammadu Buhari was recuperating in London, inaugurated the panel, headed by Okoi Obono-Obla to investigate cases of corruption, abuse of office and similar offences by public officers.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday also replaced the Economic Management Team headed by Osinbajo with an Economic Advisory Council which will henceforth report directly to the president.
Buhari, in a statement on Tuesday directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to take over all outstanding investigations and other activities of the SPIP.
It would be recalled that the President had suspended the Chairman of the Panel, Okoi Obono-Obla over allegation that he possessed an “invalid” Ordinary Level result.
Obono-Obla, in his defense said that the allegation was false adding that some people were after him for daring to investigate and expose assets hidden abroad by some powerful people in the National Assembly.
The President however said he was looking forward to receiving the final Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) report on the ongoing investigations of Obono-Obla.
