Troops of the Nigerian Army suffered heavy casualty on Thursday as they were ambushed in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. Daily Trust report.
It was reported that the insurgents attacked the troops at about 4:15pm along Gubio and Magumeri Highway leaving a dozen of soldiers killed and several others injured.
“The attackers laid ambush with anti-aircraft gun and others weapons. More than a dozen soldiers were killed in the attack while several others sustain injuries,” a source was quoted as saying.
“The source added that the insurgents forcefully seized caches of weapons and ammunition along with a utility vehicle belonging to the troops. Insurgents recently intensified attacks on military formations in the northern part of Borno State, especially in the Gubio axis. Attempts to confirm the incident proved abortive.
Similarly, an intel report by the army seen by Rootstv Nigeria has revealed how a soldier was killed with a land mine trap set by the insurgents.
The soldier, from the 27 task force battalion while on clearance operation along Buni Yadi-Kamuya in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State stepped on Improvise Explosive Device (IED) planted by the Boko Haram terrorists.
The intel indicated that “The operation was premised on information received from sources that the road was blocked by elements of Boko Haram Terrorists.
“ However, the BHTs fled the scene before arrival of the troops. The soldier died instantly as his body was shattered by the explosion. The deceased soldier was evacuated to 27 Task Force Battalion to Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital”.
The troops in the report advised the military’s authority to replace some of the unserviceable equipment like minesweepers just as they also requested for a D9 armored vehicles that could be used to sweep off explosives.
