The Federal government has petitioned the National Judicial Council for granting bail to Omoyele Sowore who has been charged to court for treasonable felony for organising the #RevolutionNow protests.
According to The Nation, the government has accused Justice Taiwo Taiwo of abuse of power in granting Sowore bail, claiming that anyone facing treasonable charges is not admissible to bail.
A top government source, who chose not to disclose his identity, said that anyone standing trial for a treasonable felony is not entitled to bail. “Sowore’s bail is likely to bring trouble for that judge”, he said.
However, following the bail and court order issued to the Department of State Services for failing to release Omoyele Sowore, a secret meeting had been held where it was decided that Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, should be punished.
