The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Olukayode Popoola, announced on Sunday, that the third Mainland Bridge would be reopened from midnight of Sunday, January 31.
The bridge was totally shutdown from midnight of Friday to allow for replacement of three expansion joints in order to stop vibrations caused by the movement of vehicles.
Giving an update yesterday, Popoola said the contractor was able to complete the repair works on the bridge on Saturday, hence the lifting of the total closure at midnight.
He said, “The casting of the expansion joints was completed on Saturday. Therefore, the Third Mainland Bridge will be opened by 12 midnight of Jan. 31.
“Motorists can start plying the bridge as from 12 midnight.
“The reopening had been communicated to the Lagos State government and all relevant agencies to ensure seamless traffic on the highway.”
Recall that on Jan. 27, a 72 hours total shutdown of the bridge was imposed by the Lagos state government from midnight of Friday to midnight of Monday, February 1 to allow for the repairs.
The Lagos State Controller of Works also said the reopening of the bridge had been communicated to the Lagos State government and all relevant agencies to ensure seamless traffic on the highway.
