Buhari, Security Chiefs meet after attempted robbery in Aso Rock

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met with Nigeria’s security chiefs at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting, which started at about 10am, was held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the First Lady.

The Presidency announced the meeting via its Twitter handle but did not give details of its agenda.

The meeting was held in reference to the attempted attack by armed robbers at the residence of the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, on Monday morning.

The meeting is expected to review the current security situation in the country and proffer solutions.

It is also a follow-up on the previous security meetings held on Friday, April 30, and Monday, May 4.

The presidency tweeted, “Security Meeting ongoing, at the State House. President @MBuhari presiding, Vice President, SGF, NSA, Ministers, Service Chiefs, IGP, Intelligence Chiefs in attendance. #AsoVillaToday #SecuringNigeria.”

Present at the meeting were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari; and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.

Also present were the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema; Minister of Defense, Bashir Salihi Magashi and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Also, fifteen Southern governors arrived in Asaba, Delta State, on Tuesday for a meeting to address the worsening insecurity and other matters affecting the regions and Nigeria.

Some of the governors in attendance were, the host Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Chairman, South-West Governors Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, who disclosed this in a statement, said the meeting was an intervention by the governors under the aegis of the Southern Nigeria Governors Forum to jointly brainstorm and address issues in the Southern part of Nigeria
