Armed men suspected to be bandits attacked the convoy of the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Tuesday night.
It was gathered that at least three policemen attached to the governor sustained injuries in the attack which happened shortly after the convoy left for Kano State from Zamfara State.
Ganduje was among the governors, who visited Zamfara State, where a mass All Progressives Congress (APC) rally held on Tuesday to welcome Governor Bello Matawalle and key Zamfara politicians into the ruling party.
The attack was said to have occurred along Shema in Katsina State, the same area where Mohammed Ahmed, a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was shot dead on Tuesday, on his way from the event.
However, government House sources confirmed the attack but said Ganduje was not in the convoy when they encountered the gunmen.
It was gathered that the Kano State Governor joined the convoy of the Governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru.
The government house official, who wished to be anonymous, said, “You know because the place was rowdy after the event which had many state governors in attendance, His Excellency, Gov Ganduje, joined his friend, Governor Badaru, and they both arrived in Kano hours before the Kano convoy arrived.”
