Billionaire businessman, Captain Hosa Okunbo, dies of pancreatic cancer

Billionaire businessman and Chairman of Ocean Marine Solutions Limited, Captain Hosa Okunbo, has died after battling with pancreatic cancer.
The Edo-born billionaire, who was a professional pilot and philanthropist, died on Saturday at the age of 63, 12 months after doctors reportedly said he had nine months to live.

The family members who disclosed this on Sunday said they thank God for the life of their late father and brother and that he dedicated his life to humanity.

Late Okunbo, who moved to London a year ago for treatment is survived by widow, Nosa, and children.

Okunbo, also known as Cappy, was born January 7, 1958. He attended Government Primary School, Benin City, Edo State; Federal Government College, Warri, Delta State; Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Centre, Zaria, Kaduna State, and ACME School of Aeronautics, Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

Aged 30 in 1988, and having logged over 7,000 hours of flight time, Okunbo retired and went into private business.

His business interests span agro-allied, petroleum, telecommunications, power, real estate and the banking sectors.

Some of his firms are Hoslyn Ventures Nigeria Ltd., CMES-OMS Petroleum Development Company, Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments, Wells San-Carlos Agro Farms Ltd, Ocean Marine Security Ltd.

Others are Westminster Security Solutions Nigeria Ltd., Wells Group of Companies, and Wells Entertainments.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed grief over the passage of Okunbo, saying the late business mogul contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian economy.
Also, the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, and the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, have described Okunbo’s death as a loss to Edo State and humanity.
Similarly, doctors in the Commonwealth of Nations, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince  Clem Agba, and many others have mourned Okunbo.
