The wife of the President of Turkey, Emine Erdoğan, inaugurated the Yunus Emre Institute, a Turkish Cultural Centre, in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Turkish First Lady was supported by the wife of the Nigerian Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq.
The institute, named after the famous 13th century Poet, Yunus Emre, would serve as a centre to increase awareness of Turkish culture, support the learning of the Turkish language and stimulate greater exchange in the fields of arts, culture, science and education.
Emine added that the people of Turkey saw Africa as the rising star of the 21st century, adding that about 14,000 African students had benefitted from the Turkish government’s scholarships.
