The United States Special Forces have reportedly killed ISIS leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Qurayshi, in a counterterrorism mission in North-west Syria.
U.S President, Joe Biden, announced this on Thursday, noting that the raid was carried out on Wednesday evening.
CNN reports that the mission was the biggest raid in the country since the 2019 operation that killed ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
According to Syrian civil defense group, at least 13 people were killed in clashes that took place during and after the raid including six children and four women.
Biden said, “Last night at my direction, U.S. military forces in northwest Syria successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our Allies, and make the world a safer place.
“Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Qurayshi, the leader of ISIS. All Americans have returned safely from the operation.”
