The Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker, who represents Taraba Central in the Senate, announced his defection when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.
Mr Bwacha was received by both the president and the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee(CECPC) and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni.
The Senate Deputy Minority Leader said he left the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress to escape the “apparent persecution” of the Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku.
Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, also confirmed the lawmaker’s defection on his official Facebook page.
He wrote, “The Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the governing party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The president has welcomed him this afternoon in Abuja.”
