Rev. Fr. Joseph Danjuma Shekari, who was abducted by bandits on Sunday night, regained his freedom.
The bandits had stormed the St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Ikulu Parish, in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State at about 11:30pm and kidnapped the priest.
The bandits killed the cook of the parish house during the attack.
On Tuesday morning, the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan announced the release of the priest by the bandits.
The Chancellor, Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo, in a statement, said Rev. Fr. Shekari was released by his abductors around 10:30pm on Monday.
Mr Okolo thanked everyone who offered prayers for the priest’s release and prayed to God for the repose of the soul of his cook who was killed during the attack.
He directed all diocese priests to celebrate the quick release of Mr Shekari and mass for the dead for his departed cook.
