Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Abuja residence of the former Governor of Imo State and 2023 Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday.
The operatives arrived at his residence in the Maitama area of the federal capital territory (FCT) to arrest him on Tuesday.
Details of their mission were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, but one of the former governor’s aides confirmed the development.
Recall that the EFCC, on January 31, filed a 17-count charge against the former Imo governor before a federal high court in Abuja.
According to the EFCC, the former Imo governor allegedly conspired with others, including a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and five companies to steal public funds worth N2.9 billion.
Sources at the location on Tuesday said the EFCC operatives barricaded Okorocha’s house with family members inside. They are insisting that no one is allowed to leave until the senator is produced or that he honors a longstanding invitation.
