The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is proposing an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC), to resolve issues ahead of the 2023 election.
It says the NEC meeting had become necessary following the expiration of the 90-day transfer of its powers to the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee NWC of the party at its 11th meeting on April 20 in Abuja.
The 90 days of power transfer which started on the 20th of April expired on the 22nd of July, 2022
The NWC which met on Wednesday, is proposing the NEC for next month, however, it was gathered that the final decision would be subject to approval by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The NWC is looking at the first week in September. This date, however, is subject to the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari. The National Chairman and National Secretary are to convey to Mr President our proposed date for the NEC meeting”, a party source revealed.
Speaking further, he said, “we cannot give a specific date now. The party leadership will consult with the President and clear the date with him. We are not privy to Mr President’s activities, that is why I cannot give the specific date. We have to clear with him and jointly agree on a date.
“We intend to have the NEC meeting before the commencement of the Presidential Campaign. We (NWC) have to report our activities in the last 90 days to NEC and equally present for approval, our comprehensive campaign programme for the 2023 general elections,” our source added.
