The national electricity grid on Wednesday, dropped from over 4,000 megawatts (MW) to 762MW as workers under the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) began an industrial action to protest a compulsory promotion interview for principal managers, among other issues.
Recalling, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), had protested on Tuesday, notifying that it would fully commence the industrial action on Wednesday.
Today, members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) had withdrawn their services at the Kaduna Regional Headquarters of the Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN) in line with the directive of the union’s national leadership.
They vowed not to resume work until all their demands are met by the Federal Government.
The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company also announced a shutdown of operations following the issues between the National Union of Electricity Employees and the Transmission Company of Nigeria. The TCN office in the nation’s capital has been shut down too.
Responding to the workers have downed their tools nationwide, the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, said the Federal Government is holding discussions with the organized labour in order to proffer resolution to various issues.
