Following passage by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, the National Assembly transmitted the harmonised version of the bill on the Nigerian Peace Corps to President Muhammadu Buhari for approval.
The letter according to highly placed source in the National Assembly, written on leter head of the CNA, was dated 12th April, 2023 and directly addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the source, three copies of the authenticated copies of the legislation were submitted to the President for assent, one of which is anticipated to be held by him and the other two returned back to the National Assembly for further action.
If the bill is passed, the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria, which has been functioning on a volunteer model for many years, will become a Federal Government-owned and supported agency known as the Nigeria Peace Corps.
