Following the partnership between the Tantita Security Services Limited and the Federal Government to combat illegal mining and oil theft; the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, criticized the government for awarding the contract for the protection of crude oil pipelines to “one man”.
He said the strategy of the Federal Government won’t yield the expected results as an individual cannot have control over the assets in another’s territory.
Reacting to this statement, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress [ADC], Dumebi Kachikwu condemned Fubara for calling for the pipeline security contract to be shared. Kachikwu said that one would have expected the governor to applaud the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited [NNPCL] for awarding the contract to Tantita, like all well-meaning Nigerians are doing.
He said:
“Did the Federal Government award the pipeline contract to a man or a company? This approach of letting us share contracts for the boys must stop. If the governor is so interested in contracts being awarded to former militants he can create and award contracts to those of them in his domain.”
