The navies of Benin Republic, Togo, and Nigeria have officially launched Operation Safe Domain II, with the theme ‘Enhancing Maritime Security through Collaboration for Regional Prosperity.’ This significant event took place on Monday in Benin Republic.
However, it’s worth mentioning that the Niger Republic, which is also a signatory to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this operation, was notably absent from the ceremony.
Commodore Aniedi Ibok, the Director of the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre Zone E, explained that this operation is part of an MoU signed back in 2014. The primary aim of this agreement is to empower the navies of each participating country to combat criminal activities in the maritime domain without any hindrance from border restrictions.
This collaborative effort is a crucial step towards ensuring the safety and security of the region’s waters, fostering regional prosperity, and maintaining maritime peace.
