A clash erupted between two factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Abuja on Tuesday, with reports of gunshots being fired during the altercation. An anonymous witness stated that it was unclear whether the gunshots came from the police or the warring union members.
This clash represents an escalation of the ongoing conflict between factions loyal to NURTW National President Tajudeen Baruwa and supporters of Badru Agbede. Baruwa has sought the intervention of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to resolve the situation and regain control of the national headquarters, which is currently under police occupation.
