The federal government on Thursday, inaugurated its first gas leak detection device manufacturing plant, a significant step toward enhancing safety in the oil and gas sector.
Minister of State, Petroleum (Oil), represented by the Director Upstream, Kamoru Busari, stated that the facility, developed by Amal Technology and supported by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), incorporates Internet of Things (IoT) technology for its operation.
Capable of alerting homeowners through SMS and calls in the event of a gas leak, the device aims to promote gas adoption for energy needs. The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader goals of gas penetration and net-zero targets, with plans for fuel-to-gas conversion centers and CNG refuel stations.
The NCDMB emphasizes the role of indigenous technology in fostering a circular economy and job creation. The Chief Executive of Amal Technologies, Tijjani Abdullahi, highlighted the NCDMB’s crucial support, emphasizing the device’s contribution to addressing electrical metering challenges and supporting reliable power supply.
