The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has thwarted attempts by drug cartels to flood the country with illicit substances during Christmas by intercepting huge consignments of tramadol and codeine.
At MMIA Lagos, over 7.5 million pills of tramadol 225mg concealed in Turkish Airlines cargo from Germany were seized. In Lagos, 258 cartons of codeine syrup and 8 cartons of codeine tablets were recovered from two shops.
NDLEA also arrested a 70-year-old grandmother and her son with over 117kg of cannabis in Mushin, Lagos.
Operatives also intercepted 200 grams of cocaine concealed in car parts heading to India and 35kg of Canadian Loud weed from containers originating from Canada.
Similar busts yielded 25,000 pills of tramadol in Abuja and over 116,000 tramadol capsules, codeine bottles and rohypnol tablets in Onitsha by Anambra command.
In Delta, 353kg of cannabis was recovered from a kingpin’s home. Enugu operatives recovered 435kg of cannabis from a warehouse.
Five persons parading as NDLEA officials were arrested in Edo with fake weapons and codeine.
Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Marwa applauded the officers and urged continued vigilance.
