The implementation of the enhanced electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been officially inaugurated, with the primary objective of reinforcing safety and security measures for the Nigerian populace. According to a statement issued on December 24 by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the introduction of the e-CMR represents a significant advancement in law enforcement capabilities, contributing to the overall welfare of citizens.
Adejobi emphasized that the e-CMR functions as a comprehensive information system geared towards streamlining vehicle registration procedures, with the ultimate goal of strengthening national security measures. He pointed out that the system’s full operationalization would enable swift and efficient tracking of stolen vehicles, thereby substantially increasing the likelihood of recovery. Moreover, it aims to maintain an accurate and current database of registered vehicles, facilitating the prevention and investigation of vehicle-related crimes, such as kidnapping and one-chance activities.
In addition to these features, Adejobi underscored that the e-CMR is specifically designed to prevent the re-registration of stolen vehicles, providing an extra layer of security and discouraging criminals from participating in such illicit activities. This engineered prevention mechanism adds a heightened level of security to the system, making it more challenging for stolen vehicles to be unlawfully re-registered.
