The New York Times has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI, alleging copyright infringement.
The suit claims that OpenAI, the creator of the ChatGPT chatbot, used several articles from The New York Times without proper authorization to train the AI service. Microsoft, as a major investor in OpenAI with over $10 billion in investments, is also named as a defendant.
The lawsuit accuses the defendants of leveraging The New York Times’ content to build products without permission or payment, asserting that such actions do not fall under “fair use.”
The legal action is part of a series of suits against OpenAI, including one filed by prominent writers in the United States. Efforts to reach an amicable resolution with the defendants were reportedly unsuccessful.
