Dangote Refinery Gets Another One Million Crude Barrels

On Monday, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery welcomed its fourth shipment of one million barrels of bonny light crude oil from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited. The $20 billion refinery is anticipating the arrival of the fifth crude oil shipment soon.

The refinery had previously received three shipments of crude oil, and officials indicated that it would commence production of refined Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and aviation fuel (JetA1) in the current month.

In the issued statement on Monday, the company noted, “The fresh one million barrels of crude was the fourth consignment to be delivered to the Dangote facility out of the six million barrels of crude being expected by the world’s largest single-train refinery.”

Akin Omole, the Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, shared earlier that the refinery would receive approximately four million crude oil shipments before the close of 2023. He mentioned that the remaining two shipments were expected in early January 2024, positioning the refinery for production.

Upon the full delivery of the six million barrels, the refinery will undergo its initial run, producing diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas before moving on to Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).

With a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote refinery is poised to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined petroleum product needs, including petrol, diesel, kerosene, and jet fuel. It also anticipates having a surplus for export.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, expressed his delight at the significant milestone and emphasized the focus on ramping up the refinery to its full capacity. He looks forward to the next milestone when the first batch of products is delivered to the Nigerian market.
