The Concerned Northern Forum (CNF) has issued a cautionary statement to President Bola Tinubu regarding the report submitted by Jim Osayande Obazee, the special investigator appointed to examine the tenure of Godwin Emefiele as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
President Tinubu assigned Obazee, a former CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), to conduct the investigation, citing Section 62 of the FRC Act.
However, the CNF, in a press release signed by its president, Aliyu Muhammad, expressed reservations about Obazee’s qualifications for leading a specialized financial investigation, pointing to his past conduct and lack of integrity. The Forum emphasized that while probing the CBN is necessary, it should not be entrusted to an individual with a compromised character and a history of corruption-related cases.
The CNF urged President Tinubu to be cautious in using a report that they consider one-sided, partial, and potentially detrimental to Nigeria’s economic well-being.
