The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has sanctioned the enforcement of a Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy covering all Nigerian Air Force personnel. While the Ministry of Defence has an existing Group Life Assurance Policy for military personnel, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, clarified that this policy solely extends to the families of personnel killed in action, neglecting medical expenses arising from accidents.
Gabkwet emphasized that the new policy is in line with the Air Chief’s leadership philosophy, emphasizing enhanced welfare and infrastructure to maintain a highly motivated force.
He highlighted the need for a specialized insurance scheme to adequately address the hazards and challenges encountered by personnel during their careers. Abubakar affirmed that the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy would provide incentives for NAF personnel, ensuring proper care in the event of disability or death during military operations or accidents.
