The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive for the deployment of police officers and security equipment along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway to ensure the safety of travelers. In response to growing security concerns, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Operations, Ede Ekpeji, has been tasked with closely supervising the security personnel assigned to the route.
The directive, communicated via a statement from the Nigeria Police Force, underscores the proactive measures taken to enhance safety and security in the region. Egbetokun emphasizes that the increased presence of security forces, equipped with advanced technology and strategic resources, is intended to act as a deterrent to criminal activities.
The statement acknowledges the abduction of no fewer than 85 persons, including both travelers and residents, along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway near Katari in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. While confirming a bandit attack at Dogon Fili near Katari, the Kaduna State Police Command remains silent on the specific incidents of abduction.
Egbetokun stresses the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining the security and well-being of residents and travelers. He calls on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel during the discharge of their duties.
