JAMB Waives Registration Fee for Persons with Disability

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has declared that the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be exempt from charges for individuals with disabilities seeking registration. Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, announced this during a media interaction session to kick off the registration process for the 2024 UTME. Oloyede mentioned that JAMB will provide application documents free of charge to all categories of persons with disabilities as a support initiative.

He also revealed that, to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates, audio books will be supplied to blind candidates. The provision of audio books was proposed at the inaugural National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria. Oloyede explained that these audio books, available in popular formats like MP3, WMV, and WMA, are digital adaptations of traditional reading materials compatible with various devices for easy comprehension by blind candidates.

Diagrams will be excluded from questions for blind candidates in the upcoming UTME. All candidates, regardless of category, will receive a free e-copy of the reading text for the 2024 UTME. Registration for the examination is set to begin on January 15, with a fee of N6,200 for those not participating in the mock examination, while mock exam participants will pay N7,700 for registration.
