The Nigeria Customs Service joint border patrol team sector IV has announced the seizure of a shipment of sex enhancement drugs valued at N19.6 million in Sokoto.
The coordinating comptroller, Kolapo Oladeji, made this revelation during a press briefing in Sokoto. He mentioned that trucks carrying food items were also intercepted at Kajji community along the Sokoto-Kebbi road.
Oladeji further explained that the intercepted trucks loaded with food items were en route to Niger Republic through the Kebbi border, which violated regulations.
“We are committed to preventing food smuggling out of the country, especially given the current situation. We are all aware of the soaring prices of food items due to the actions of some individuals,” he stated.
“Our citizens are suffering from hunger, yet food is being diverted to other countries despite the border closures imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”
“We will intensify efforts to track and obstruct their routes. Anyone caught engaging in this illegal activity will face legal consequences,” Oladeji asserted.
Additionally, he mentioned the seizure of counterfeit drugs with undetermined duty-paid values during routine operations.
“These drugs pose serious health risks to our citizens, with some bearing counterfeit National Agency For Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) registration and expiration dates,” he warned.
