During a session on Monday, seven members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly made the decision to suspend sixteen of their colleagues who had previously threatened to impeach the Speaker of the House, Bilyaminu Moriki, the previous Thursday.
The suspended members were accused of forcibly entering the offices of the clerk of the house and the sergeant at arms, resulting in damage to property within the assembly complex.
Speaker Moriki, leading the House, deemed the legislative session conducted by the eighteen members the previous Thursday as unauthorized and against the law.
The House issued a statement urging the residents of Zamfara State in the North-West region to disregard any rumors circulating about the suspension of the Speaker.
Furthermore, the lawmakers alleged that certain influential politicians from outside the state were backing the suspended members in an attempt to disrupt the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.
Last Thursday, eighteen members, led by what they termed the Speaker Pro-Tempore, had suspended Moriki due to his prolonged absence from the state amid the escalating activities of bandits across Zamfara State.
