The Senate has granted President Bola Tinubu’s request to dismiss Babatunde Irukera, the Executive Vice-Chair of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Tinubu’s letter, read during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President GodsWill Akpabio, cited inefficiency as the reason for demanding Irukera’s dismissal.
Under the FCCPC Act, the President is required to seek approval from the National Assembly to remove the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Commission.
In January, Tinubu had already dismissed Irukera, along with the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Alexander Okoh, with immediate effect.
Following discussions, the request was subjected to a voice vote, with the ayes prevailing as the Senate President struck the gavel.
