The raid took place on Saturday in the Igboro forest, Arochukwu Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, the clearance operation was conducted to apprehend the killers of five soldiers in Aba last month. During the intelligence-led operation, troops encountered Improvised Explosive Devices along their axis of advance, and one soldier sustained minor injuries from the fragments.
The soldiers were killed on May 30 by gunmen who were reportedly enforcing the IPOB sit-at-home directive. The incident occurred at a military checkpoint in Obikabia junction, Aba.
The governors of the region and Ben Kalu, deputy speaker of the House of representatives, had condemned the murder of the soldiers.
