Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved Israel’s six-member war cabinet following the exit of coalition leader Benny Gantz from the government.
The decision was announced at a meeting of the political security cabinet on Sunday evening. The dissolution comes after Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for a new war cabinet featuring coalition party leaders. However, Netanyahu turned down their request.
According to AFP, Netanyahu is expected to hold future consultations about the Gaza war with a smaller group of ministers.
This group will include Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, who were part of the dissolved war cabinet.
