The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that all SIM cards used in the country are now manufactured locally. Babagana Digima, the Head of New Media and Information Security at NCC, revealed this at a training for media executives in Lagos.
He credited the achievement to the NCC’s commitment to encouraging local content and Indigenous participation in the telecommunications industry through the Nigeria Office for Development in the Indigenous Telecommunications Sector (NORDIT).
Digima highlighted NORDIT’s role in facilitating the local manufacturing of SIM cards and other telecom products, including Corrugated Ordinal Duct and fiber cables. He underscored the commission’s advocacy for Indigenous participation in all aspects of telecoms and its efforts to bridge the gap between the commission and the public through education and enlightenment initiatives.
Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, reiterated that the initiative to upskill senior media executives was borne out of the need to bridge the gap between the commission and the public within the industry and foster understanding among consumers and stakeholders.
