Former chairmen of 21 out of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State, Monday, staged protests at their respective council areas, despite a police advisory against such actions.
According to The Punch, the ex-council leaders, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, demonstrated in their local councils to show solidarity with Wike.
In Buguma, Asari-Toru LGA’s headquarters, former Chairman Onengiyeofori George led supporters through the streets, waving placards with messages like “Sim Fubara Can’t Continue to Act As He Likes” and “There’s No Vacancy in Asari-Toru Council”.
The protest in Asari-Toru LGA nearly turned violent when operatives of Asari Dokubo’s private military company, Amama soldiers, attempted to attack the protesters but were restrained by alert policemen, according to The Punch.
