The number of electricity consumers in Nigeria has increased by 210,000, rising from 12.12 million in the 4th quarter of 2023 to 12.33 million in the 1st quarter of 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics NBS.
This 1.78 percent increase was highlighted in the NBS Electricity Report for Q1 2024, released on Tuesday in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the review focused on energy billed, revenue generated, and customers by distribution companies (DISCOS) during the period.
Electricity distribution companies collected N291 billion in revenue in Q1 2024, slightly down from N294 billion in Q4 2023, but up by 17.91 percent from N247.33 billion in Q1 2023.
Despite these gains, electricity supply decreased to 5,769 Gigawatt hour GWh in Q1 2024 from 6,432 GWh in Q4 2023, showing a 1.41 percent decline year-on-year from 5,851 GWh in Q1 2023.
