Six teenagers drowned in the Mbang river Tuesday in Ribang village, Kaura Local Government Area, of Kaduna State, while returning from their Junior WAEC exam at around 5:30 p.m.
The victims, identified as Manasseh Monday aged 16, Musa John aged 16, Pius David aged 15, Monday Ayuba aged 16, David Danlami aged 19, and Yahuza Audu aged 16, were students of Government Secondary School Fadan Chawai.
National Public Relations Officer of Ribang Development Association, Pastor Simon Ishaku, confirmed the incident, stating that three bodies have been recovered and buried, while three remain missing. He highlighted the dangers posed by the Mbang River, which locals must cross to access schools and hospitals.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, and the Zonal Coordinator of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, Mubarak Muhammad, had yet to confirm the incident as of reporting time.
