Two people were shot dead and two others gravely wounded in Brussels early Thursday in an area near the Gare de Midi train station, known for drug trafficking, police reported.
The shooting occurred between 1 am and 2 am near a cafe in the Saint Gilles district of the Belgian capital, with the suspects fleeing the scene, according to a police spokesman. In total, three people were wounded; two are in life-threatening condition, while the third is stable.
Brussels region authorities have identified Saint Gilles as a drug hotspot, along with 14 other districts in the capital. Police have not yet established a link between the shooting and the city’s illegal drug trade. Judicial officials are expected to make a statement later on Thursday regarding the incident.
